Valets are being used by the police

Valet attendants are being trained to spot potential drunk drivers. The Austin Police Department and with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission are working with business owners, primarily in the Warehouse District.

They held a training class Monday for valets on how to deal with customers who might be intoxicated and want to drive home. "It's the right thing to do, also it helps perpetuate the perception that we care about people, we want to make sure people are safe, that they live to get home, that they don't do any damage," Paul Silver said.

If a valet believes the driver is too intoxicated to drive, they'll offer several options such as calling a cab, asking if there is a designated driver or calling Austin Designated Drivers.

If the driver is still insistent on driving, they will be warned that 911 will be called to report a possible DWI.

If a valet causes your friend or family member to be arrested, we are here to help you get them out of jail.
